The National Association of Seadogs, Pyrates Confraternity, Aqua Kanata deck in partnership with Peel Multicultural Centre, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada has donated 160 winter coats to asylum seekers in the area.

Concerns had heightened recently when a Nigerian asylum seeker was found dead in a tent outside a shelter where he was seeking asylum in the area of Dundas Street East and Dixie Road, Mississauga, Ontario.

The Mayor, Patrick Brown had because of the incident made a passionate appeal to the Federal Government of Canada to intervene “to prevent further deaths of asylum seekers with winter around the corner”.

According to Mr Teddyson Iyonmana, Capoon of Aqua Kanata deck, the organisation compelled by the humanitarian gesture  of NAS/PC, decided to partner with Peel Multicultural Centre to show support for asylum seekers.

He expressed optimism that the over 160 pieces of winter coats and other weather related apparel donated to warm up about 150 people sleeping outdoors would prevent more fatalities expected if the three levels of government does not take action.
