JOS BLOODBATH: RECURRING KILLINGS SHOW FAILURE OF STATE PROTECTION – NAS

The National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity) has condemned the deadly Sunday night killings of no fewer than 30 citizens in the Anguwan Rukuba axis of Jos, Plateau State.

The association described the persistent bloodshed across the country as unacceptable, and a tragic reflection of the failure of authorities to safeguard human lives adequately.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the NAS Capn, Dr Joseph Oteri, the organisation lamented that the continuous loss of innocent citizens in Jos and other parts of Nigeria has become a disturbing pattern that demands urgent and decisive government action.
Oteri said, “We are deeply saddened and outraged by the recurring killings in Jos and other communities across Nigeria. The sanctity of human life must never be treated casually or with kid gloves. Every Nigerian life matters and must be protected with the full weight of the law.”
He noted that the frequency of violent attacks in recent times raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of existing security measures and the commitment of authorities to prevent such tragedies proactively.
“The pattern of violence we continue to witness is alarming. From Plateau to other parts of the country, Nigerians are being subjected to avoidable trauma, fear, and loss.
“The Federal Government must move beyond routine condemnations and demonstrate genuine political will to stop these senseless killings. It must stop playing politics with the lives of Nigerians,” Oteri stated.

The NAS Capn stressed that security agencies must be empowered, equipped, and held accountable to ensure that perpetrators of violence are identified, arrested, and prosecuted without delay.
“We task the government at all levels to rise to its primary responsibility of protecting lives and property. Failure to decisively confront this menace only emboldens criminals and weakens public confidence in the state,” he added.
Oteri further called for improved intelligence gathering, swift emergency response mechanisms, and stronger collaboration between security agencies and local communities to prevent further loss of lives.

“The continued bloodshed across Nigeria must stop. Nigerians cannot continue to live in fear in their own country. We demand concrete, visible and measurable steps towards restoring safety, peace, and national cohesion,” he said.

NAS extended its condolences to families who have lost loved ones and urged citizens to remain vigilant while cooperating with lawful authorities to promote peace and stability.

“The time to act is now. Government must demonstrate that Nigerian lives are not expendable,” Oteri added.
