Group offers scholarship, screens 250 for tuberculosis in Calabar

The National Association of Seadogs, also known as Pyrates Confraternity, on Friday offered one year educational scholarship to two pupils of Community Secondary School in Akpabuyo Local Government Area of Cross River State.

The group had earlier on Thursday offered free medical check-up for tuberculosis and other ailments as well as dispensed drugs to 250 persons in Calabar.

President of the Calabar-South chapter of NAS, Dr. Calistus Enyuma, who presented a cheque of N30, 000 to the principal of the school, Mrs. Aruk Omorie, on behalf of the pupils, said that the gesture was part of the association’s initiatives in promoting education in Nigeria.

Enyuma said that the support was also in line with the Corporate Social Responsibility of the association in reaching out to the people.

He said that the association had chosen to identify with the promotion of education because educational development was the bedrock of any country’s development.

He said, “We are here today to offer a one year educational scholarship for two pupils of this school. This gesture is in line with our Corporate Social Responsibility of reaching out to the people.

“NAS is a registered association; we are here to perform one of our mandates of encouraging learning and teaching at the secondary school level.

“This token is to for the school fees, text books and other learning materials of two pupils of this school. We promise to capture more students in the long-run as the economy improves.”
